Features removed from Windows 11

Besides rolling out new features, Windows 11 also kills some features of Windows 10. “When upgrading to Windows 11 from Windows 10 or installing Windows 11, some features may no longer be available, or removed,” Microsoft stated.

Here are the details of the features that are no longer available on Windows 11:
  • Cortana will no longer be included in the initial startup experience or pinned to the Taskbar
  • Wallpaper no longer transferred between devices when signed in with a Microsoft account
  • Internet Explorer disabled. Microsoft Edge is the recommended alternative, equipped with IE Mode
  • Math Input Panel removed. Math Recognizer will install as required and includes both the math input recognizer and control. This change doesn’t affect math in apps like OneNote
  • News & Interest is upgraded to Widgets, adding some new features.
  • Quick Status from the Lockscreen and related settings removed
  • S Mode only available on Windows 11 Home
  • Snipping Tool continues to exist, but the old design and functionality of the Windows 10 version will be replaced by the features of the Snip & Sketch application.
  • Start menu has major changes on Windows 11 including the following limitations and removals:
  • App-named folders and groups will no longer be supported and the layout cannot be resized
  • Pinned apps and websites are not preserved after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11
  • Live Tiles removed, replaced with Widgets
  • Tablet Mode removed
  • The changed functions of  Taskbar include:
  • The People button no longer appears on the Taskbar
  • Some icons may no longer appear in the System Tray for upgraded devices, including previous customizations.
  • Taskbar locked at the bottom edge of the screen, cannot be repositioned
  • Apps can no longer customize the space on the Taskbar
  • Timeline removed. Some similar features will be available on Microsoft Edge
  • Touchpad no longer able to attach and unmount keyboard layouts on screens 18 inches and larger
  • Wallet app removed
  • The following apps won’t be removed when upgrading, but are no longer installed on new devices or when installing Windows 11 from scratch. They can only be downloaded from the Microsoft Store:
  • 3D Viewer
  • OneNote for Windows 10
  • Paint 3D
