What is Cloud Server? How does the cloud server work?

by Total Drivers

A cloud server is a virtual server (rather than a physical server) running in a cloud computing environment. It is built, hosted and distributed via a cloud computing platform on the Internet and can be accessed remotely. Cloud servers, also known as virtual servers, contain all the software required to run and can function as standalone units.

What is Cloud?

“Cloud” usually refers to a number of servers connected to the Internet, which can be leased as part of a software or application service. Cloud-based services may include web hosting, data storage and sharing, and the use of software or applications.

“Cloud” can also refer to cloud computing, where several servers are linked together to share the load. This means that instead of using a single powerful machine, complex processes can be distributed across many smaller computers.

One of the advantages of cloud storage is that there are many distributed resources working together – often referred to as a federated storage cloud. This makes the cloud very error-prone, due to the distribution of data. Using the cloud tends to reduce the creation of different versions of files, due to shared access to documents, files, and data.

Features and types of cloud servers

Businesses can choose from several types of cloud servers. 3 main models include:

Public cloud server

The most common expression of a cloud server is a virtual machine (VM) which a public cloud provider hosts on its own infrastructure and makes it available to Internet users using a control panel or web-based interface. . This model is widely known as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). Popular examples of cloud servers include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, Azure, and Google Compute Engine.

Private cloud server

The cloud server can also be a computer instance in the on-premises private cloud.. In this case, an enterprise distributes the cloud server to internal users on the “local network” and in some cases, to external users on the Internet.

The fundamental difference between a hosted public cloud server and a private cloud server is that a private cloud server exists within an organization’s own infrastructure, while a public cloud server is owned and operated outside of the organization.

Dedicated Cloud Server

In addition to the virtual cloud server, the cloud service provider can also have the option of a physical cloud server, which essentially provides the cloud provider’s physical server to the user. These dedicated cloud servers are often used when an organization has to implement a custom virtualization layer or mitigate the performance and security concerns that often come with multi-tenant cloud servers.

Cloud servers can handle a wide range of compute options, with varying amounts of processors and memory resources. This allows users to select an instance type that best suits the needs of a particular workload.

For example, a small Amazon EC2 instance can provide one virtual CPU and 2GB of memory, while a larger Amazon EC2 instance offers 96 virtual CPUs and 384GB of memory. Additionally, cloud server instances that are tailored to special workload requirements can be found, such as desktop-optimized versions that include more processors than memory storage.

While traditional physical servers typically include some memory, most public cloud servers do not include storage resources. Instead, cloud service providers often offer storage as a separate cloud service, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service and Google Cloud Storage. Users provision and link storage instances to the cloud server to store content, such as VM images and application data.

What are the benefits of cloud servers?

Cloud server gives business users stability and security

1. Cloud servers give business users stability and security, as any software issues are isolated from your environment. Other cloud servers will not affect your cloud server and vice versa. If other users overload their cloud server, this will not affect your cloud server, just like physical servers.

2. Cloud server is stable, fast and secure. They avoid the hardware problems that occur with physical servers and can be the most stable choice for businesses looking to cut their IT budget.

3. Cloud server provides faster service. You’ll get more resources and faster service for the same price for a physical server. Websites hosted in the cloud will run faster.

4. You get scalability with cloud servers. It’s very easy and quick to upgrade by adding more memory and disk space, and is more affordable.
